Montevideo Residence by DCA
From historic to iconic

Real estate developer DCA created a multipurpose landmark building at 't Eilandje in Antwerp. We built the brand for the new residences on the rich heritage of the warehouses and the 'happy few' factor of 16 exclusive units.

The story behind the work
What was the challenge?
Location, legacy and luxury were the three key words for real estate developer DCA. With them as a compass, DCA set out to establish a multipurpose landmark building at 't Eilandje in Antwerp. The Montevideo project entailed both demanding conservation and bold architecture, and it meant entering the elite residential market.
't Eilandje is an iconic location today, with the MAS and the Red Star Line Museum as its exponents. Just 10 years ago, the neighbourhood was notorious. A hundred-plus years ago, these docks formed the bustling port connecting Europe with the Americas. The massive Montevideo warehouses stored the spices and beans that came across the Atlantic Ocean.
What choices did we make?
DCA does not walk away from a challenge, and neither do we. Together, we entered the elite residential market. We let the rich heritage and the high 'happy few' factor build the brand.
The characteristic roof was designed to improve the preservation of the precious goods. It inspired the logo design. The high-end branding complements the new, exclusive residences with landmark allure and crowns the late 19th century architecture in spectacular fashion.
We also kept the history of the place and the stories of its people in view. 't Eilandje has long played an important commercial role for companies on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. For many thousands of travellers and adventurers, the port offered a pathway to a new life and a promising future.
What did we create?
We created the brand for Montevideo Residence, with a logo inspired by the characteristic roof of the warehouses. The high-end branding gives the exclusive residences the allure of a landmark.
The website immerses its guests in both the urban lifestyle and the architectural experience. It presents the 16 exclusive units overlooking the Scheldt and the surrounding waterfront. Some of the many visitors to this thriving quarter are lucky enough to trade sightseeing for a permanent panorama.
The restored warehouses now accommodate co-working, retail and bars. A destination for many. A home for some.
